“The Time Traveler’s Wife” is one of the best love stories that I have ever read. It is a story that transcends time (pun intended). It is creatively written from two points of view: Clare’s and Henry’s. The story takes place in a linear fashion, but Henry is a time traveler who can appear within the time frame of the story as himself at various ages. The author is so creative, that Henry actually encounters situations in which there are two Henrys: the one from the present, and the one from the future.

The love story begins with Henry as a thirty-six year old going back in time to 1977, when Clare was six. The story progresses from there through dozens of different dates and situations in time. Characters in the story ask Henry, “When are you coming from?” This is, of course, unusual because most people would ask, “Where?” instead of “When?”

When Henry meets Clare for the “first” time in his twenties, he does not know all the previous encounters that he has had with Clare since she was six. The reason for this is that he sees her as a young girl when he is physically older. This makes the story even more interesting because Clare knows the man that Henry will become before Henry does.

As in any good story, there are tragic aspects to their lives and there is the ultimate moment of love and tenderness. I wish we could all lead lives of such warmth and love.

If you like excellent stories that are well crafted and impossible to put down, then this is the book for you. Buy it, snuggle up under a warm blanket and enjoy.
