| John Grisham is a popular writer of fiction. Prior to my reading this book, I had seen two movies based on his novels. The movies were fun and somewhat thought provoking. It was with this prior experience that I purchased and read “The Client.” Other than filling some spare time, the book was disappointing.
“The Client” is an easy-to-read book that drags on for over four hundred pages. It is an unbelievable tale of a precocious eleven year old who serendipitously helps bring down a mafia murderer. |
The events in the book, and especially the dialogue, are impossible to believe. I do not know of any eleven year old who would hold conversations with adults like the protagonist of this story does. Even more incredulous is the way adults speak to the child.
The plot and subplots of this book are so ridiculous that at one point the eleven year old masterminds an escape from jail. He then eludes the local police and FBI with the help of his lawyer–a professional who would lose her license, be incarcerated in real life, and would be highly unlikely to do such a thing.
Needless to further enumerate the reasons, I did not like this book, nor do I recommend it.
