| “Last Man Standing” is the second David Baldacci book that I have read, and it is the first one that I have enjoyed. It is a lengthy story about an FBI agent called Web, who works with an elite hostage rescue team. The story starts with Web’s team being wiped out in a mission, and suspicion about Web being the only agent left alive.
Baldacci introduces about a dozen characters throughout the book; each one is complex, interesting, and believable. |
The storyline is also complex, and many subplots are intertwined expertly into the narrative. The quality of a writer can often be judged by how well the reader knows a character after reading the book. I felt I knew the characters extremely well and felt sympathy for most of them.
I was able to figure out one aspect of the story, but not all of it. The ending is as complex as any that I have ever read, and only an excellent story-teller could have created it. I did not care much for “The Collectors” (read review here) but this is an entertaining read and I recommend you buy and enjoy it.
