| David Baldacci’s writing was recommended to me by a family member who has tastes that are very different from mine. Always wanting to be open-minded, I purchased two of his books and have now read, “.” It was an easy-to-read murder mystery that could be easily converted into a mindless and entertaining film. However, it is not a well crafted piece of fiction, nor is the storyline even remotely believable.
There are two unbelievable stories in this book that are intertwined in an equally unbelievable scenario. |
Just picture four con-artists convincing a hardened Atlantic City casino owner into transferring $40 million into an off-shore account, expecting to get 20% return in four days. Would you believe that? The other storyline, which is the central one to the book, involves four sixty+ year old men who solve a series of murders and foil an international spy ring; they do this in spite of the CIA’s attempts to do the same thing. Improbably, the spy ring is tranferring secrets by putting codes into rare books in the Library of Congress, having readers transcribe the codes, and mailing them abroad.
Needless to say, I do not recommend this book. However, I will read the second book and give Baldacci another chance.
