| I had never read any of James Patterson’s many books, until I was given these two as a gift. They are clearly not on the same bookshelf as other authors and their works reviewed here. These are escapist books and could never be called literature or fine writing. However, they are perfect time fillers, when you have nothing better to do.
“1st to Die” is a crime drama with a creepy criminal who kills newlyweds on their wedding night. A homicide investigator sets out to capture the murderer and enlists a group of tough female friends to sound out her ideas and pursue the criminal. |
There are two subplots which are interesting–the investigator is suffering from a deadly disease, and is also falling in love with her partner. All said, it is perfect Hollywood fare. I would not doubt that it is, or will become a movie at some point.

“London Bridges” is a terrorist fantasy in which a character called, “Woff” forces the governments of several western countries to capitulate to his demands. He receives two billion dollars and the release of several prisoners, but not before blowing up bridges in New York, London and a couple of city blocks in Paris. The story is colorful and frightening, but hardly believable.
If you need mindless entertainment, buy these and enjoy. |
